I worked with UNAIDS on the Education Plus Initiative—a multi-agency effort to improve outcomes for adolescent girls and young women across sub-Saharan Africa.
The initiative addresses the intersection of education, gender inequality, and HIV risk.

Scope of Work
My role spanned multiple design outputs:
– Editorial illustrations for newsletters
– Flyer and campaign materials
– Country factsheet design (data visualization + layout)
– Illustration assets for video
This required translating complex, sensitive data into clear, engaging, culturally grounded visuals across formats.
The Challenge
The Zambia factsheet needed to: Present dense statistical data in a simple, accessible way, Balance data credibility with visual warmth, Use pictograms and illustration to improve comprehension, Feel engaging for donors, policymakers, and public audiences
Design Approach
I approached this as a system, not just a one-off layout:
Pictogram Language — Consistent icons to humanize statistics
Color-coded Narratives — Each theme visually distinct but cohesive
Data Simplification — Complex stats into digestible visual chunks
Hierarchy & Flow — Readers could scan while understanding the full story
Impact
Transformed complex public health data into accessible visual communication
Contributed to advocacy materials used across multiple countries
Built a scalable visual system adaptable across print and digital formats
Strengthened storytelling around girls’ education and HIV prevention
